SUMMARY:
This position will serve as an assistant to current HR staff in all areas of Human Resources. The position will initially be 32 hours a week with potential for some on-call hours.  The position is intended to be a training position with the potential for upward mobility; must have a desire to pursue a career in the Human Resources field.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES
(Other duties may be assigned)
Provide assistance to the staff of the Human Resources Department as directed. (Prepare employee handbooks and orientation packets; prepare packets for interviews, copying and filing, distribution of payroll, drafting memos and letters, etc.)

Be a key team member in the development and implementation of the Stepping Stones Program

Working with the current HR team to assist with and learn:

The preparation of paperwork for new hires and exiting employees

The process for request for recruitments, job descriptions, posting positions internally and externally

The process for ordering supplies and monitoring inventory

The annual evaluation process

The orientation process, including the review of policy and enrollment in benefits

The personnel data base, generate PANs, do PAN tracking, distribution and posting within the data system

Payroll distribution

The Microix system including the process for ENCs, APIs and scheduling travel

Maintenance of personnel (paper) files

EOC procedures

Preparations and hosting at HR hosted functions, i.e. Staff Summer Picnic, Appreciation Dinner, Fall Potluck

FMLA: the law, tracking, with short and long term disability and worker’s comp.

FLSA Law and how it applies in Indian Country

Complete online HR relevant training

Develop forms, labels and data using Word, Access and Excel

Provide clerical assistance as needed

Provide excellent customer service

Other departmental duties as assigned

SUPERVISORY RESPONSIBILITIES:
There are no supervisory responsibilities with this position.

QUALIFICATIONS: 
To perform this job successfully, an individual must be able to perform each essential duty satisfactorily. Must be proficient in Word, Access, and Excel and type a minimum of 45 words per minute.  Must be able to proofread own work for errors and have an eye for detail and accuracy. Experience with note taking preferred. Interview will include a skills test.

EDUCATION and/or EXPERIENCE:
Associate of Arts Degree in Human Resources or Business Administration and 2 years business/clerical relevant experience with increasing responsibilities; OR High School Diploma/GED and 4 years experience in a business/clerical related field with increasing responsibilities. Must attain Tribal Human Resources Proficiency Certification before completion of second year. Previous experience working with youth preferred.

LANGUAGE SKILLS: 
Ability to read and interpret documents such as safety rules, operating and maintenance instructions and procedure manuals. Ability to write routine reports and correspondence. Ability to speak effectively before groups of employees of the organization.

MATHEMATICAL SKILLS: 
Ability to add, subtract, multiply, and divide in all units of measure, using whole numbers, common fractions, and decimals.  Ability to compute rate, ratio, and percent and to draw and interpret graphs.

REASONING ABILITY: 
Ability to apply common sense understanding to carry out instructions furnished in written, oral or diagram form. Ability to deal with problems involving several concrete variables in standardized situations.

CERTIFICATES, LICENSES, REGISTRATIONS:
Must pass WATCH and Tribal Court Background Check (No felony or misdemeanor crimes against people.)

This position also requires close vision, peripheral vision, and the ability to adjust focus.

This position will require employee to work frequently near moving mechanical parts.  The noise level for this position is generally moderate.
