Under the supervision of the Summer Recreation Program Coordinator, the Summer Recreation Program Assistant is responsible for the supervision of children, ages 5-12; is responsible for conducting a variety of safe, fun, and interesting activities. Also is responsible for developing a positive relationship with his/her group in a safe environment.
ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES
(Other duties may be assigned)
MUST have prior job experience working one on one with children between the ages of 5-12.
Uphold program rules, operating principles and policies and procedures.
Guide, direct, and participate with your group of children, in daily activities.
Maintain supervision of the children in your care at all times.
Responsible for the health and safety of the children under your supervision.
Develop group cohesiveness.
Assist in the social, mental, and emotional development of children in your group.
Participates in daily a.m. and p.m. meetings of program staff.
Help maintain program participant files that include registration, medical, and permission slip forms.
Help with daily attendance records, infraction notices, field trip participant lists, and other daily forms.
Encourage respect for staff, personal property, Summer Rec. Equipment and Facilities.
Must support prevention curriculum.
Must be available to attend entire week of pre-program staff training 6/26 – 6/30. No exceptions.
Must be available to work the entire 7 week Summer Recreation program including the pre-program staff training 6/26– 6/30, Summer Recreation 7/3 – 8/18, No exceptions.
Must be available to work a Monday through Friday, per the above listed dates, unless otherwise notified. No exceptions.
There are no supervisory responsibilities with this position.

EDUCATION and/or EXPERIENCE:
MUST have one year of prior experience working one on one with children ages 5-12 and a High School Diploma or GED. OR 3 years of relevant work experience working one on one with children ages 5-12.
Ability to read and comprehend simple instructions, short correspondence and memos. Ability to write simple correspondence. Ability to effectively present information one-on-one and small group situations to customers, clients, and other employees of the organization.
Ability to add, subtract, multiply and divide in all units of measure, using whole numbers, common fractions, and decimals. Ability to compute rate, ratio and percent and to draw and interpret bar graphs.
Ability to apply common sense understanding to carry out detailed but involved written or oral instructions. Ability to deal with problems involving a few concrete variables in standardized situations.
CERTIFICATES, LICENSES, REGISTRATIONS:
Must have a current Washington State Driver’s License. Must pass WATCH and Tribal Court Background Check (No crimes against people.) Must have CPR/First Aid certification.

THERE WILL BE “NO” TOLERANCE FOR THE USE OF ALCOHOL OR ILLEGAL DRUGS WHILE EMPLOYED IN THE SUMMER YOUTH PROGRAM. USE OF TOBACCO IN FRONT OF THE YOUTH OR DURING WORK TIME IS NOT ALLOWED. ANY VIOLATION OF THESE POLICIES IS CAUSE FOR IMMEDIATE TERMINATION.
