The Youth Activities Manager Assistant reports directly to the Youth Activities Manager. This position is responsible for assisting in the planning, implementation, and supervision of all program activities. This position requires thorough working knowledge of program rules and operating principles. This position demands a high amount of energy, patience and teamwork. This position will assist in positive mentoring of youth and students, stressing the importance of healthy behaviors and staying in school; assist in the planning and implementation of cultural activities and programs; assist and/or direct youth and students to appropriate staff members for after school homework help and procurement of school supplies. Must be an outstanding role model for our youth, be organized and have a passion for working with and mentoring youth. This position has no supervisory responsibilities.
The Supervisor will work with the Trainee to develop an individualized training program to support advancement. Including formal and informal opportunities for learning.
ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES: Other duties may be assigned.
- Uphold program rules and operating principles and policies and procedures.
- Collaborate with Youth Activities Manager to co-develop daily routines, schedules and activities for recreation program.
- Must be knowledgeable of Native Culture and assist in the integration of that knowledge into planned activities.
- Help organize, implement and provide overall supervision of planned daily program activities.
- Responsible for the safety of program participants.
- Supervision of youth. This is the function of observing (within eyesight), hearing (within hearing distance), overseeing, and guiding a child or group of children. This includes awareness of and responsibility for the ongoing activity of each child and being near enough to intervene if needed. It requires physical presence, knowledge of activity requirements, and children’s needs, and accountability for their care and safety.

- Creates, maintains and encourages a clean work environment (including, but not limited to, the ground floor of the Tu Ha’ Buts Learning Center, playground and surrounding outside area.)
- Take inventory, organize and store program supplies.
- Help plan and prepare daily snacks during after-school programming.
- Presents oneself as a role model to youth.
- Work as a team with Youth Activities Manager, Tu Ha’ Buts Learning Center staff and seasonal employees.
- Must be available to work during the entire Summer Recreation program.
- Must be flexible and available to work evening and weekend hours.
- Must be flexible and available to attend training as appropriate.
- Reliable work attendance is required. A successful applicant must be present at work consistently and on-time.
- Communicates every workday with supervisor, plans ahead and communicates in advance with supervisor, concerning possible absences.

EDUCATION and EXPERIENCE: Youth Activities Manager Assistant:
Applicant must have a High School Diploma or GED and a minimum of 2 years experience working directly with children ages 5 to 18 and 1 year experience planning and implementing activities and/or curriculum for a total of 3 years experience.
Youth Activities Manager Assistant Trainee:
Applicant must have a High School Diploma or GED and a minimum of 2 years of experience working directly with children.
Ability to read, interpret and analyze business periodicals, professional journals, technical procedures, and governmental regulations. Ability to effectively keep data, writes reports, and communicates professionally. Ability to effectively present information and respond to questions from groups of participants, parents, and tribal community.
Ability to calculate figures and amounts such as discounts, proportions, percentages, area, and volume. Ability to apply concepts of basic algebra and geometry.
Ability to use Microsoft Office (Word, PowerPoint, Publisher) to communicate, organize and present information regarding the recreation program to staff and tribal community. Ability to use the internet to research work-related events, find contact information, manages calendars and tribal email. Ability to use telephones and work cell phones to communicate and plan recreation events.
Ability to solve practical problems and deal with a variety of variables in situations where only limited standardization exists. Ability to take in information in any given situation and make sound judgments in order to maintain safety of youth and staff. Ability to interpret a variety of instructions furnished in written, oral diagram or schedule form.
CERTIFICATES, LICENSES and REGISTRATIONS:
Must have current Washington State Driver’s License. Employee must pass WATCH and Tribal Court Background Check. Must obtain CPR certification, First Aid certification and food handler’s permit.
While performing the duties of this job the employee is regularly required to stand, walk, run, use hands, fingers, reach with hands and arms; the employee is regularly required to sit, balance, stoop, kneel, crawl, and climb stairs, taste and smell. The employee is also regularly required to lift up to 10 pounds and occasionally lift 25-50 pounds.
The work environment is such that the employee will regularly be exposed to chemicals that may appear in cleaning solutions and/or arts and crafts activities. The employee may occasionally be exposed to outdoor weather conditions. The noise level range in the work environment is quiet to noisy.
This position will have knowledge of confidential personal information regarding others. The employee will be required to sign a confidentiality agreement and adhere to applicable standards.
The successful candidate will be required to have a urinalysis for drug and alcohol screening in accordance with the Tribe’s Drug Free Workplace Policy.
There is NO TOLERANCE policy for the use/promotion of alcohol or illegal drugs while employed at the Tu Ha’ Buts Learning Center. Use of tobacco in front of the youth during work time is NOT ALLOWED. Any violation of these policies is cause for immediate termination.
