11 Year Excavation at the Mud Bay Site
The Squaxin Island Tribe’s Cultural Resource Department (CRD), property owners Ralph and Karen Munro, and South Puget Sound Community College anthropology faculty and students forged a unique partnership. Excavation of an ancient processing site of salmon and shellfish was conducted for 11 years. It was co-managed by Dr Dale Croes and Rhonda Foster, Director of the Tribe’s CRD.
The items recovered are used to help us understand the everyday lives of our tribal ancestors and are the highlight of exhibits in our Museum Library and Research Center.
These items are also gifts from our honored ancient Ancestors who show us how they flourished here along the shores of Southern Puget Sound and the other traditional areas within our rich and abundant ecosystem.
