Our webpage.
Dear Shelton School District Families and Community,
The district has been hard at work planning for the fall of 2020. This important task has been the focus of seven sub-committees comprised of over two hundred staff and community members.
The sub-committees have taken into account the complexity and uncertainty that currently exists at this time with the understanding that the plan must be flexible and adjustable to any challenges that may arise in the future.
The health and safety of our students, families, and staff have been and will continue to be the primary focus as we move forward. Based on current data trends and discussions with our local health jurisdiction, we have made the decision to start school 100% online in the fall.
Through this plan, we will continue to be diligent to ensure equity, accountability, health and safety, and overall meet the needs of students, families, and staff. As with most efforts, we will not satisfy everyone but I must say that our hearts and intent have been genuine in all respects, and we will continue to do whatever is necessary to provide the best educational environment for our students, families, and staff.
Thank you for your support and understanding during these unprecedented times.
Please visit the 2020-21 SCHOOL YEAR webpage for more information about our re-opening plan, and to access the Re-Opening of Schools Subcommittee reports.
Sincerely,
Alex P. Apostle
Shelton School District Families,
Thank you for your patience and support as our staff has diligently been working to prepare for online school in the fall. We have had several questions regarding enrolling in other online programs outside of our district and how they differ from K12, SSD’s chosen online curriculum. While there are still many questions, below you will find a list of key information we hope you find helpful.
What you should know about K12:
- Please do not register through K12. Students will automatically be registered through the school district. More information to come.
- K12 curriculum will be taught by SSD staff.
- Special Education, Title 1, and LAP services will be provided.
- Full counseling services will be provided through our school counselors.
- Evening sessions and support will be available for students and parents.
- We will continue to offer support and wrap-around services through school district programs including, but not limited to, English Learners, Native American Education Programs, McKinney-Vento, our Family Support Services, and all other State and Federal Programs.
- High school students will carry a full load meeting graduation requirements.
- Although we are currently working on solutions to try and provide internet for all students, printed lessons from K12 will be provided for students who do not have internet access.
Below you will find two links that may give you more of an idea of the lessons that will be taught by our staff. Please keep in mind that these are only samples. We will be making adjustments to meet the needs of our students and staff. SSD staff will have flexibility with the curriculum and will provide a more hybrid experience for our students.
